Goa to net Rs 1,000 cr sales tax revenue in 2007-08

Panaji, Sep 27 (UNI) The Goa government has set up an ambitious target of Rs 1,000 crore revenue through sales tax for the current fiscal as against Rs 8,600 crore earned last fiscal.

Disclosing this at a meeting of the state commercial tax officers at the secretariat today, State Finance Minister Dayanand Narvekar said the government had initiated various steps to boost revenues even as it was poised to remove ''impediments'' in tax recovery.

Reviewing the performance of the department in presence of the commissioner of commercial taxes Vallabh K Kamat, the Minister said he would resolve the staff grievances besides overcoming manpower shortage at the earliest.
