5 policemen suspended in custody death case

Ujjain, Sep 27 (UNI) Five policemen, including Station House Officer UPS Chouhan, were suspended following the death a youth at Bhairavgarh police station here yesterday, while a judicial inquiry had been instituted in this regard, police said.

''Rajendra Singh, a resident of Parvikheda village, was detained by Ujjain police in an assault case and he committed suicide by hanging with his shirt at the police station's toilet yesterday'', Superintendent of Police Jaideep Prasad said.

First class Judicial Magistrate Vishnu Kumar Soni has started inquiry in this regard.

Meanwhile, Rajendra's wife Naruni and mother Ladkunwar alleged that Rajendra was a victim of police torture. They also charged that police demanded bribe of Rs 35,000 for releasing Rajendra.

They told reporters here that they were not allowed to meet Rajendra when they visited the police station yesterday.

Besides the SHO, Sub-Inspector Yogendra Singh Sengar, Head Constable Ramashray Gupta and Constables Rajesh Bharadwaj and Akhilesh Shukla were suspended.
