Students stage dharna on non-conduct of exams

Puducherry, Sep 26 (UNI) Agitated over the delay in conducting practical examinations, the girl students of the Motilal Nehru Government Polytechnic School here staged a dharna inside the principal's room, this morning.

With teachers staging a strike pressing for salary hike and regularisation of service, practical examinations could not be conducted, triggering unrest among the students. All other polytechnics in the Union Territory had aleady conducted the examinations.

The students, who were on a strike for the last one week, went to meet the Principal to discuss the conduct of examinations. However, they turned violent during talks with the Principal and damaged the office door.

Police reached the spot and persuaded the students to withdraw.

But, they staged a dharna in the office room.
