Students meet CM to demand better security on DU campus

New Delhi, Sep 26 (UNI) Student representatives of the Delhi University today met Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit and demanded better security arrangements on the campus, in view of increasing number of molestation cases.

The students conveyed to her that a University Force should be set up, comprising NCC and NSS volunteers, specially sensitised to deal with cases of sexual harassment.

The volunteers could operate under the regular supervision of the Police, said Ritwick Agarwal, of the United Students, who was also present at the meeting.

They also demanded that a statutory body on the lines of Jawaharlal Nehru University's Gender Sensitisation Committee against Sexual Harassment, be established in DU too.

Also, they called for better lighting facilities and installation of gates to protect the campus.

The Chief Minister welcomed their suggestions and assured them her cooperation in this regard, they said.

Among those who met the CM are Amrita Bahari, DUSU president, Devraj Tehlan, DUSU vice president, Ekta and Aditya of United Students.
