Security personnel beat 'thief' to death

Salem, Tamil Nadu, Sep 26 (UNI) Police today arrested four security personnel at a spinning mill on the charges of beating to death an undertrial mistaking him for a thief.

The shocking incident, coming in the wake of the recent happening in Bihar in which ten thieves were beaten to death, came to light today when police identified the victim as Natarajan of Dharmapuri District who was undergoing treatment at the government hospital here.

A bootlegger, Natarajan was arrested and lodged in the Central Prison here. Last night he escaped from the hospital where he was undergoing treatment.

As he entered the private spinning mill, the security personnel caught and questioned him. When he gave contradictory versions, they mistook him for a thief and beat him.
