PM to flag off Train Exhibition on 150 years of freedom struggle

New Delhi, Sep 26 (UNI) A Mobile Train Exhibition depicting the crowning moments of the country's freedom struggle will be flagged off by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here on September 28.

The Train Exhibition that would cover 70 destinations across the country has been organised by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting as part of the celebrations of 150 years of the 1857 War and 60 years of Independence.

It will journey for eight months before winding up on May 15 next year.

The train will be stationed on each destination for two to three days to enable the people to experience the spirit of the national struggle for independence.

The exhibition will also capture the epoch-defining events of the post-independence history.

The exhibits include photographs, diaroma, cut outs, scrollers and videos. It would have several sections devoted to various phases of the national movement like rise of the spirit of freedom, events leading to landmark events like the Quit India Movement of 1942, the partition of the country, the transfer of power and the making of the Constitution.

The exhibition also covers various social movements like the indigo farmers issue, Champaran happenings, the rise of national press, patriotic literature, Bhoodan Movement of Acharya Vonibha Bhave and participation of women in the freedom movements.

Book, cards and momentos on the theme of 1857 and freedom struggle would be would be made available at special sale counters in the train.

The Exhibition is a project of the Directorrate of Advertising and Visual Publicity of the Ministry.
