Nikon eyes 45% of Indian SLR market
New Delhi, Sept 26 (UNI) The 6.3 billion dollar Nikon Corporation today said it aims to capture 45 per cent of the Indian digital single-lens reflex (SLR) market and 10 per cent of the country's compact camera market.
''As part of our Vision 2010, we hope to capture 45 per cent of the Indian digital SLR market and 10 per cent of the Indian compact camera market,'' Nikon India Private Ltd (NIPL) Managing Director Hidehiko Tanaka said.
SLR cameras, the fastest-growing segment of the digital camera market, are high-end models with interchangeable lenses, as opposed to point-and-shoot compact cameras.
Sony Corporation is expected to launch its new digital single lens reflex camera for advanced users in November, a move to take on industry leaders Canon Inc and Nikon Corp.
The company today set up its wholly owned subsidiary to manage Indian and West Asia operations.
The company plans to undertake various activities like workshops and photo-contests to promote the photography culture in the country, added Mr Tanaka.
