HC issues notice to Pb govt on VC's petition

Chandigarh, Sep 26 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued notices to the Punjab Chief Secretary, Home Secretary and the Education Secretary for October 11 on a writ petition filed by Punjabi University Vice Chancellor Swaran Singh Boparai.

In his petition before the division bench of Justices Adarsh Kumar Goel and Ajai Lamba, Mr Boparai had sought directions against any interference in his working as the Vice Chancellor or any attempt to curtail his powers by the state government.

He prayed for directions to ensure that the law and order was maintained in the university.

The writ petition had been filed amid ''attempts by interested elements to promote an atmosphere of agitation in the university on one pretext or the other.'' UNI
