Gram panchayat election stalled in Georai after violence

Beed, Maharashtra, Sep 26 (UNI) After two rival groups clashed in Georai, about 30 km from here, on the last date of withdrawal of nomination papers for the ensuing gram panchayat elections in the state, the election officer and the tehsildar stopped the election process.

The angry mob ransacked the tehsil office as well as attacked the policemen and their vehicles, and also torched a motorcycle. The police have arrested 20 persons in this connection.

A large crowd had gathered at the tehsil office to know the outcome after withdrawal of nomination papers. Two persons, belonging to rival groups, said to have clashed that soon turned into a group clash. Some people also gained entry into the tehsil office and ransacked the election record.
