Farmers to protest water distribution policy

Sambalpur, Sep 26 (UNI) Farmers all over the Hirakud command area have decided to protest the government's water distribution policy to the industrial houses coming up in large numbers in Sambalpur and Jharsuguda districts.

FarmerS and representatives unanimously resolved at a meeting at Baraipali yesterday that demonstrations would be organised on November 6 at Hirakud Dam to protest water supply to the industries.

They dubbed the report of Jaisilan committee on distribution of water as unfortunate and anti-farmer.

Notwithstanding the protest from several farmers organisations in Western Orissa on water to industries, the state government has allotted large amount of water to industries ignoring agriculture, in the area, alleged Bibhu Prasad Patnaik of Sasan.
