DRI seizes Rs 1.5 cr worth red sanders

Chennai, Sep 26 (UNI) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 18.6 MT of red sanders worth Rs 1.5 crore in the international market from an export container at Tutocorin Harbour, a DRI release said here today.

It said with this the Directorate had seized a total of 118 MT of red sanders in Chennai and Tuticorin with a total value of Rs 4 crore and an international value of Rs 8 crore in eight cases.

The local value of the 18.6 MT seizure was about Rs 75 lakh, the release said, adding this was the biggest seizure of red sanders made so far in Tuticorin and the first occasion a 40 feet container was used for smuggling the logs.
