Depression triggers heavy rains in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Sep 26 (UNI) Incessant rains lashed several parts of coastal and north Orissa as a depression over West Central Bay and adjoining North-West Bay of Bengal off south Orissa-north Andhra Pradesh coast moved north-westwards and lay centred at about 150 kms south East of Puri.

Met sources here said the system is likely to intensify further and move in a north westerly direction and cross Orissa coast between Gopalpur and Paradeep today.

Under its impact, heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at a few places over Orissa during next 36 hours. The authority has already hoisted local cautionary signal number three at all ports.

Report said the strong and gusty surface wind from north-easterly direction speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph likely to prevail along and off Orissa coast.

The fishermen had been advised not to venture into the sea as the sea condition will be rough to very high during the period.
