Birth centenary commemoration of Bhagat Singh from tomorrow

Amritsar, Sep 26 (UNI) The nation will remember its illustrious sons on the occasion of two-day commemoration of the birth centenary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev being organised as a national event here from tomorrow.

Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Culture and Tourism Minister Ambika Soni, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Uttrakhand Chief Minister B C Khandoori and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will be among the galaxy of leaders who will attend the function.

Mr Patil, Mrs Soni, Mr Hooda and Major General (Retd) Khandoori will grace the occasion on the second day of the commemoration function.

The Punjab Chief Minister will preside over a function to be held in this connection at Jallianwala Bagh tomorrow.

Contingents of 100 youth from each district of Punjab, carrying ''Mashals'' (torches), would gather at Jallianwala Bagh and handover these to the Chief Minister. Nearly 1000 youth from the neighboring state of Haryana would also participate in the event. Mr Badal would administer an oath to the youth to dedicate themselves to the unity and integrity of the country and to follow the ideals of Shaheed-E-Azam.

Cultural programmes, depicting the life and ideology of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and other martyrs, have been planned for the evening.

Renowned singers Ms Jaspinder Narula, Hans Raj Hans and Master Saleem would present patriotic songs.

Befitting tributes would be paid to the great martyrs and heroes of the freedom movement on the occasion, which will go a long way in awakening the spirit of patriotism in the youth, said Punjab Information and Public Relations Minster Bikram Singh Majithia.

He called upon the people to participate in the celebrations and illuminate their houses and establishments on the occasion.
