Chennai, Sep 24: A Sri Lankan, wanted in connection with a fake passport case, was arrested at the Anna International Airport here when he attempted to board an Indian flight to Colombo.

Airport sources said Selvarathinam (51), a native of Vavuniya, was detained by the immigration officials yesterday when it came to light that he was declared a wanted criminal by the Central Crime Branch police in May 2005 for preparing a fake Indian passport and a UK visa to a Sri Lankan, Tyagi Vijayadharan, for Rs 5 lakhs. The CCB Police had intimated all the airports in the country in this regard.

Consequently, the immigration officials cancelled his trip and handed him over to the Airport police station, who registered a case and transferred it to the CCB police.

The 'Q' Branch police and the CID police were now interrogating Selvarathinam about the number of fake passports and other travel documents he had prepared and whether he had helped any terrorist escape from the country.
