PMK threatens agitation on NLC land acquisition issue
Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, Sep 24 ((UNI) The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) led by Founder-Leader S Ramadoss will lay siege to the residences of top Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) officials on October 16 if they fail to hold talks with the land owners and farm workers on land acquisition issue, according to Party MLA T Velmurugan.
Addressing the residents of the 69 villages on the periphery of the NLC who took out a procession to the Collectorate here, Mr Velmurugan sought a compensation of Rs 35 lakh for every acre of land acquired besides training farm workers for employment in the corporation.
He also said NLC should bear the expenditure for their children's education.
According to Mr Velmurugan, NLC excavated Rs 30 crore worth lignite from every acre incurring Rs five crore as expenditure thereby making a clean profit of Rs 25 crore.
The PMK MLA claimed the corporation was acquiring lands without holding any public hearing and making huge profits.
The NLC management should hold talks with the villagers on the issue before October 16 failing which around 1,000 residents of the district would lay siege to the officials' houses under the leadership of Party Supremo S Ramadoss.
