Mah DyCM announces Rs 25 lakh for Marathi Sahitya Sammelan

Sangli, Maharashtra, Sep 24 (UNI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil has announced that the state government will sanction a grant of Rs 25 lakh to the 81st Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan, to be held here in January next year.

Mr Patil, who is also the president of the Sammelan, yesterday said he will discuss the issue with Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and promised that he will make more funds available, if needed.

He was speaking at a meeting organised here to discuss the necessary planning and preparation for the sammelan.

He said the sammelan should be treated as reflection of the integrity of Marathi linguists, for which the literatteurs should take initiative on a priority basis.

All politicians should help make the sammelan a grand success in the interest of the Marathi language and literature, Mr Patil added.
