DMK demands criminal proceedings against Vedanti
Chennai, Sep 24 (UNI) The DMK Government in Tamil Nadu, which is a constituent of the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) Government at the Centre here today demanded that criminal proceedings should be initiated against the former MP and senior VHP leader Ram Vilas Vedanti, who had issued a 'Fatwa'against the Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for his derogatory remarks on Lord Ram.
In a resolution passed at an all-party meeting convened by the DMK at the party headquarters in Anna Arivalayam here tonight, also demanded that the Centre take steps to arrest Mr Vedanti.
In another resolution the meeting also called for a bandh on October one and an all-party meting on September 30 to create awareness among the people that the communal forces like BJP and VHP were only attempting to stall the economic benefits for the State through the Sethu Samudram Channel Project(SSCP).
Later, addressing a press conference, Mr Karunanidhi said the bandh and the public meeting were also to press the Centre to proceed with the Sethu Project by taking note of the hindrances being placed by the communal forces for the project.
Asked whether it was proper to call for a bandh against the Centre while being part of the alliance and that DMK MP T R Baalu himself being the minister concerned for the project, Mr Karunanidhi said bandh and the public meeting were only to create public awareness against the hindrances being created by the communal forces.
