New Delhi, Sep 24 (UNI) Celebrations today broke out in the capital as soon as India thrashed Pakistan in the final of the ICC Twenty20 World Cup match late this evening.

Fireworks broke as soon as the last wicket of Pakistan's Misbah-ul-Haq fell to a Joginder Sharma delivery in the last over of the game.

The capital's roads looked deserted, as people remained glued to the television sets when the match was on. Before the match started, several office-goers left for home early to catch it on TV.

The generally crowded roads of the city also gave a deserted look as the excitement of the final match pulled back people from all age groups.

Later, after the match was over, people came out into the streets, and hugged and congratulated each other.

While children in some housing societies were seen jumping with joy, holding the Indian tricolour and singing the popular song ''Chak de India'', elders cut cakes and celebrated Indian victory.

Delhiites took to the city streets in large numbers waving the national flag and shouting slogans of 'Chak de India'.

Meanwhile, policemen stepped up vigil to avoid any untoward incident.
