Kolkata, Sep 24 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today ordered a CID inquiry into the mysterious death of Rizwanur Rehman, whose body was found under mysterious circumstances on Friday even as Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee demanded a CBI probe.

''The Government has ordered a CID inquiry into the incident. The probe would look into the circumstances and the causes of the death.

The CID has been asked to submit its report early, '' Mr Bhattacharjee stated.

Ms Banerjee said, '' The CID inquiry will not be able to trace out the culprits. I have met the Governor and demanded a CBI probe into the incident, '' and wondered how police described it as a case of suicide before receiving the post-mortem report.

Ms Banerjee asserted that the death of Rizwan bore an ample testimony to the fact that ''state-sponsored terrorism'' was continuing in the state. The administration was trying to safeguard the ruling party, she alleged.

''We feel that it is a well-planned murder and the investigation should be neutral and the government should mete out examplary punishment to the culprits, '' she iterated.

The body of Rizwan, a graphic designer, was found beside railway tracks on the northern fringe of the city last Friday hours before he was to meet a human rights organisation with the 'proofs' of threatenings he had been receiving from a few high police officials and his in-laws demanding that the bride go back to her parents.

The incident took place days after Priyanka, the daughter of an industrialist, residing with him for more than three weeks, was taken back home by her relatives with an undertaking before police that she would be returned in seven days.

However, Rizwan's wife was not allegedly allowed to go back to her husband. It was alleged by Rizwan's family and his friends that the 30-year-old had been murdered and efforts were on in connivance with police to hush up the case.

His death, described by police as a prima facie case of suicide, triggered violence in the city's Park Circus area on Saturday last as local residents blocked all roads and went for a showdown with the law keepers, hurling stones and lighting up a police vehicle.

Rizwan's family also alleged that the couple had been under tremendous pressure from the industrialist and his men ever since the marriage on August 31. Feeling unsafe, they sought police protection, which allegedly went abegging.
