Maoist-affected districts in Bengal peaceful during bandh

Purulia, Sep 23 (UNI) No untoward incidents have so far been reported in the bordering districts of Burdwan, Purulia and Bankura during the 24-hour bandh called by the Maoists in Jharkhand, Bihar and Chhattisgarh today.

Nonetheless, police have sounded a high alert in all these three districts of South Bengal.

All check posts between West Bengal and Jharkhand were sealed-off yesterday.

Maoist stronghold blocks of Bankura and Purulia have been directed to intensify patrolling and keep vigil over Maoists movement.

South Eastern Railway's Adra division and Eastern Railway's Asansol division have cancelled or diverted several trains, especially those running in the coal India Chord section.
