Haryana to strictly enforce green laws

Chandigarh, Sep 23 (UNI) Haryana State Pollution Control Board and Environment Department would strictly enforce the environmental regulations for preserving and providing healthy environment for the people of the State.

While directing the officers of Haryana State Pollution Control Board and the department in a meeting held at Panchkula recently, the Haryana Minister of State for Forests and Environment, Kiran Choudhry said that surprise checks should be conducted by the officers and violators of the existing environmental norms and regulations should be dealt sternly.

She also gave clear directions to the Regional Officers of the Board that all these actions should be taken in time bound manner and full transparency should be ensured.

The department should work as a team and as a crusader for protection of environment, she advised.

Ms Choudhry emphasized that hazardous waste generating units should be checked thoroughly and Regional Officers should verify the quantities of hazardous waste generated and also check stringent actions taken against those units, which were found dumping the hazardous waste illegally.

She said that there was a need to launch intensive publicity campaign through print media, electronic media and eco clubs. The eco clubs would be strengthened and the Forests Department would associate in making eco clubs more effective, she added.

She appealed to the public to come forward and inform the authorities about various environmental irregularities committed by the industrial units.
