Subramaniam, Kaviko for Tamil Scholar and Literary award

Chennai, Sep 22 (UNI) Veteran Tamil Scholars V I Subramaniam and 'Kaviko' Abdul Rehman have been selected for this year's 'Veteran Tamil Scholar and Literary awards', given annually by popular Tamil daily Daily Thanthi on the occasion of its founder C P Adityanar's birth anniversary.

The Veteran Scholar award carries a silver meddalion and a chase prize of Rs 1.5 lakh, while the Literary award, carries a cash prize of Rs one lakh.

The awards would be distributed on the occasion of 103rd birth anniversary of Adityanar, to be celebrated at Rani Seethai Hall here on September 29. Madras University Vice-Chancellor S Ramachandran would distribute the awards, Daily Thanthi Director Sivanthi Adityan said in a release.

Tamil scholar Subramaniam, hailing from Nagercoil, obtained his B A Hon degree in 1946 from Scott Christian College and did his Doctorate in America Indiana University.

He had penned a number of books and research papers. He was the receipient of Murasoli award, given by the Murasoli Trust in recognition of his research work in Dravidian language.

Poet Abdul Rehman, hailing from Madurai and had served as Professor in Islamic College in Vaniyambadi for 30 years. Receipient of Tamil Nadu Government's Bhrathidasan and Kalaimamani awards, Mr Rehman is selected for Daily Thanthi's Literary award for his book 'Kakkaichoru'.
