K'taka: Mob rampant during Ganesha immersion

air
to
quell
infuriated
mob
which
engaged
in
arson
and
looting
in
Gangavathi
town
in
Koppal
district
during
the
immersion
of
Ganesh
idol
late
last
night.
According to police sources, the trouble started when some miscreants threw stones at the Ganesh Idol procession in Gangavathi town.
In protest against the incident of stone throwing on the Ganesha procession. the mob went on rampage and reportedly set fire to many shops belonging to a particular community.
Following the incident, the processionists abandoned the Ganesh Idol on the road itself in protest and targetted shops belonging to minority communities.
The police who intervened to bring normalcy burst tear gas shells and also reportedly opened fire in the air to disburse the agitating crowd.
