Mamata declares one-hour statewide road blockade on Sep 24

Singur Sep 22 (UNI) In the wake of the unrest over a farmer's suicide at Singur and a mob violence in Kolkata, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today declared to organise a one-hour statewide road blockade on September 24.

''We shall put up road blockade between noon and one PM everywhere in the state on Monday to register our protest against both incidents,'' he told reporters here.

Ms Banerjee was here to visit the bereaved family of Srikanta Shee, a local farmer, who had allegedly committed suicide last night.

Holding the Left Front Government and Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee responsible for Shee's death, she alleged that this was nothing but a kind of 'murder'.

''The state Government is brokering for multinational companies at the cost of the livelihood of the poor. Shee's death is not a simple case of suicide, it is a fallout of the action of the Government and the Chief Minister, who facilitated land acquisition for the Tatas' car project,'' she said.

Shee, an unrecorded bargadar, who used till the crop land that was acquired for the Tata Motors' small car project, was allegedly out of job for quite some time.

Ms Banerjee alleged that the mob violence in South Kolkata's Park Circus area over the death of a local youth was also a testimony to the Government's inefficiency.
