Ahmedabad, Sep 22 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and Union Textile Minister Shankersinh Vaghela today alleged that the crime rate in Gujarat had made a vertical rise during the of Narendra Modi government in the state.

Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Vaghela quoting the figures recently released by the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) said, ''The BJP government's claim of the Gujarat as the most safe and crime free state in India, is nothing but a white bluff and false propaganda.'' ''In reality, the law and order situation in Gujarat is worse than the most notorious state like Bihar,'' the Union Textile Minister claimed.

Mr Vaghela said in the five-year term of the Modi government, the crime rate had made a whooping stride with the total number of crimes recorded in the state at around 580,000. ''This is clearly indicating that women, children, senior citizens and businessmen in the state are not safe in the present law and order situation.''he claimed.
