2 held in connection with Sep 11 Sindhudurg blast

Kolhapur, Sep 22 (UNI) Police have arrestsd two persons in connection with the explosion of a bomb-like object on Chandgad-Amboli road in Sindhudurg district on September 11 in which two persons were killed.

Kolhapur district superintedent of police Sukhwinder Singh and his counterpart from Sindhudurg Ravindra Shisave, addressing a joint press conference here today, said the two were arrested with the help of the Belgaum police.

The arrested have been identified as Santosh alias Sitaram Arvind Hegade (20) and Hanumant Nivruti Borate (22) -- both hailing from Solapur district.

Mr Singh said the two have confessed to the crime. The duo had caused the explosion to blow a bank van and loot the cash. The two were aware of the van's movement which passed through the rural parts of the Konkan region.

Three villagers had noticed the wires which were meant to trigger off the blast. The miscreants had panicked and triggered off the blast early. Two of the villagers were killed and the third injured.
