Militant killed, one injured and police guard attacked in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 21 (UNI) One militant was killed and a civilian injured while ultras attacked a police party in the Kashmir valley overnight.

Superintendent of Police Awantipora, Sardar Khan said Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and Army launched a joint operation at Lam-Tral, about 35 km from here in south kashmir this morning following a tip off about the presence of militants there.

He said during the operation an encounter ensued in which a militant was killed.

A police spokesman said an encounter took place between militants and security forces near Tehsil office, Pattan, on Srinagar-Uri road last night in which a civilian Azhar-ul-Haq was injured.

Militants later managed to escape under the cover of darkness, he said adding the injured was hospitalised.

He said militants hurled a hand grenade towards the police guards posted at the residence of Mohammad Yousuf Peer, at Wakoora, Ganderbal last evening.

However, the grenade missed the intended target and exploded without causing any damage.

The guards also retaliated but there was no report of any loss of life or damage to property.
