Low pressure turns into depression, heavy rains in AP predicted

Hyderabad, Sep 21 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government sounded an alert in the North Coastal Districts as Meterological Department warned the trough of low pressure over South Orissa and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh was likely to intensify into a depression bringing heavy rainfall.

The Meteorological Department said the system became well marked this morning and under its influence, rain or thundershowers were likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh with heavy showers at a few places in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh in the next 24 hours.

The authorities opened control room in the coastal districts to gear up for any eventuality and more than 33,403 families had been evacuated so far, Disaster Management officials said.

Heay rainfall was also likely at one or two places over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh during the same period.

Strong surface winds from north-westerly direction with speeds reaching up to 45 to 50 kmph were likely along and off the Coast of the state till tomorrow morning and the sea was likely to be rough.
