Kottayam, Sep 21 (UNI) Kerala School Teachers Union (KSTU) today came down heavily on the state education department for introducing reforms unilaterally without taking the academicians and teachers into confidence.

Addressing a news conference here President C P Cheriya Muhammed, General Secretary A K Sainudeen and other leaders charged that the education department in the state under the CPI (M) government was a total failure.

In the name of reforms and amendment of rules, the state government was imposing party policies in the education sector, they alleged.

Text books were not being supplied to plus two students even after the first term examinations.

The government was following the old syllabus for plus one even after the introduction of the new syllabus. Follow up action was not being taken for the much publicised child census, they also alleged.

They also announced that the 29th state conference of KSTU will be held here from March 3 to 5 next year. Education protection meetings would be conducted at 1000 centres before the state conference.
