UP hikes duty on wastage of potable alcohol

Lucknow, Sep 20 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government has hiked the duty on wastage of potable alcohol, while rationalising the rate of duty for different categories.

The state cabinet approved a proposal for revising the duty on the wastage of potable alcohol produced, stored, transported and exported outside the state.

The maximum limit of the wastage of stored spirit, wastage in transit and wastage in re-distilliation has been laid down in the UP Excise manual.

Presently duty at the rate of Rs 20.50 per bulk litre is charged in case of wastage above the limit prescribed in the Excise manual.

But now on the different varieties of country liquor, the duty will be charged at the rate of Rs 92 to Rs 192 and from Rs 142 to Rs 576 bulk litres on India made Foreign Liquor (IMFL).
