STNM hospital in Gangtok to get status as mini AIIMS
Gangtok, Sep 20 (UNI) To upgrade health facilities in Sikkim, a team of Union health ministry led by joint secretary C K Ramamurthy, is expected to tour Sikkim from tommorow.
Offical sources today said Mr Ramamurthy would study the Centre's proposal to upgrade and modernise STNM hospital in Gangtok to a mini AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) during his visit.
The proposal also envisages to upgrade and modernise the hospital from the existing 200 to 500 beds.
The Central team would also be interacting with the officials of the national health programme and STNM officials on September 22 and 23. Besides, he would meet state Health Minister Hissey Lachungpa.
He would also visit the Ultra Modern Trauma Centre at Singtam district hospital and Rangpo primary health centre in East Sikkim.
Mr Ramamurthy would also be attending the convocation at Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences here on September 24.
