Sarathkumar on demolition of Ram Setu
Chennai, Sep 20: Actor-turned-politician Sarathkumar has urged the Centre to respect the sentiments of the people on the demolition of Ramsethu under the Sethusamudram Shipping Canel Project (SSCP).
Talking to reporters on Setember 19, the actor, who had recently floated the All India Samathuva Katchi (AISK), said if there was an alternative alignment, the Centre should implement it without destroying the bridge.
''If there is no alternative or if the alternative route is not viable, then the Central and the state governments should convince those opposing the demolition and then go ahead with the project,'' he added.
He hoped the all-party meeting convened by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on September 24 would be able to convince those opposing the demolition of the mythical bridge.
He, however, warned against exploiting the religious sentiments of the people. Mr Sarathkumar also condemned the attack on the residence of the daughter of Mr Karunanidhi at Bangalore allegedly by some Sangh Parivar outfits to condemn his remarks on Ramsethu and the subsequent bus burning incident in which two people were killed.
