NECCC forces AICC to replace Tripura Congress chief

Agartala, Sep 20 (UNI) The dissident faction of Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has sought help from North East Congress Coordination Committee (NECCC) to remove the incumbent TPCC president.

The TPCC leaders camping in Delhi, for over a week, told UNI over telephone here today that NECCC general secretary Sharif Laskar had brought the matter to the AICC's notice yesterday demanding an immediate action to end the scuffle within the party.

Nine Congress MLAs and a few senior leaders had been demanding the resignation of Mr Samir Ranjan Burman, who is also the former Chief Minister.

Recommending Mr Burman's replacement, Mr Laskar said the Congress president in any of the Left-ruled states should be acceptable to all factions.

Meanwhile, a group of Congress workers, former Chief Minister Sudhir Ranjan Majumder, former PCC presidents and seven other MLAs had threatened to resign from the Assembly if Mr Burman is not repalced immediately.
