J'khand Governor urges to increase gross enrolment ratio

Ranchi, Sep 20 (UNI) Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibte Razi today said that admission ratio in the universities of the state should be enhanced.

Speaking at a meeting of Vice Chancellors, Mr Razi said that at present the gross enrolment ratio in state's universities was only 5 per cent whereas the University Grants Commission (UGC) had fixed it to 15 per cent for the 11th five year plan.

Mr Razi said that a proper future plan should be made to achieve the target.

The Governor directed the VCs to make eloborate arrangements to make up the academic schedule hampered due to strike of university employees.

Refering to vocational courses, he said the universities should make arrangements for the economically backward students so that they could get admission in the self-financed courses.

Meanwhile, among others the VCs of Ranchi University, Vinoba Bhave University, Birsa Agriculture University, Sidhu Kanhu University and Birla Institute of Technology informed the Governor about various academic and research projcets operational in their institutions.
