Govt failed to protect unorganised workers: CITU

Vijayawada, Sep 20 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government has failed to protect the welfare of the unorganised sector workers' and solve their problems, Centre for Indian Trade Union (CITU) State Secretary S Veeraiah said today.

Addressing a press conference here, he said even Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy failed to fulfil his poll-promise in this regard.

He said over 1,00,000 unorganised sector workers were facing lot of problems in the state. About fifty lakh workers submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister about their problems. He had assured them that a special Committee would be formed soon to take necessary steps for the welfare of unorganised sector workers.

But the government had failed, Mr Veeraiah alleged.

He said the CITU had demanded the state government to provide pucca houses, pension and insurance to the workers.
