E Rly, EME, PSB emerge winners in Baba Farid Gold Cup

Moga, Sept 20 (UNI) Eastern Railways Kolkata today defeated Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) Patiala by 5-3 goals, EME Jalandhar defeated Coex Bhupala by 2-1 goal and Punjab and Sikh Bank Academy outplayed Indian Air Force New Delhi by 4-3 goals on the second day of 16th All India Baba Farid Gold Cup Hockey tournament being played at Government Barjindera College Hockey Stadium at Faridkot.

In the first match, Eastern Railways defeated PSEB Patiala by 5-3 goals. At half time PSEB was leading by 1-0 when Jatinder Singh centre forward of PSEB opened its account with a field goal in the 9th minute. In the 59th mintue Eastern Railway's Manoj Khajoor left half equalised through a field goal dodging the PSEB defence. In the 70 minutes play both the teams were locked 1-1. The match was decided via tie break.

In the second match, EME Jalandhar defeated COEX Bhupal by 2-1.

EME opened its account in the 18th minutes when Jagjit Singh right half scored field goal. At half time EME was leading by 1-0. In the second half of the match Jai Bhagwan right full back of COEX Bhupal equlised through penalty stroke. In the 48th minute just before the final whistle Avtar Singh of EME made no mistake for winning goal through penlty stroke.

In the third match, Punjab and Sind Bank Academy defeated Indian Air Force New Delhi by 4-3 goals. In the first half Indian Air Force was leading by 3-1 goal. Punjab and Sind Bank Academy though opened its account in the 13th minute of first half when Swaran Singh inside left scored first field goal. In the 30th minute S Along centre forward of Indian Air force equalised through field goal.

The Indian Air Force inside left G Rom Khajoor scored second goal and in the 32nd minute Lavpreet left full back converted penalty corner.

In the first half Indian Air Force was leading by 3-1. In the second half PSB Academy center forward scored second goal in 43 minutes. Onkar Singh scored another field goal in the 54 minute.

Kulwinder Singh of PSB Academy left full back converted winning goal of penalty corner.
