15 lac children under deworming campaign

Chandigarh, Sep 20: An estimated 15 lakh children of primary schools of Haryana have been covered under a special mass deworming campaign, the second such drive this year.

While stating this here today, Health Minister Kartar Devi said, '' deworming of children was necessitated as it was observed that a lot of children suffered from anaemia and worm infection was the main cause of this. This campaign would help in improving the health of the children,'' she added.

She said that deworming campaign was first launched by the state Health Department in September 2005 and since then it was being conducted twice in a year. Under the campaign, albendazole tablets were given to primary school children inside the premises of schools.

In the ambit of this programme, bananas were also distributed among children. Doses of iron supplementation were being given at weekly intervals, she added.

Mrs Kartar Devi appreciated the cooperation of the Education Department and district administration for the success of the campaign. She advised the students to inculcate the habit of observing personal hygiene and good dietary habits.
