SCB hospital ransacked; Junior doctors resort to strike

Cuttack, Sep 19 (UNI) The Junior doctors of the SCB Medical College and Hospital today went on a strike, demanding adequate security after a mob assaulted the doctors and nurses of the hospital last night and ransacked the casualty department.

The mob went on a rampage attacking the doctors, nurses and ransacking the hospital following the death of a patient.

Police today arrested eight people and forwarded them to court on the charges of assaulting the staff on duty and ransacking the hospital.

According to police, one Bidhyadhar Pani of Puri ghat area felt uneasy during the immersion procession of Lord Ganesh after he consumed soft drinks last night. He was brought to the medical college and hospital, where the doctor administered an injection and discharged him later, but he died on the way.

Soon after the incident, a group of people reached the hospital and assaulted the doctors and the nurses and ransacked the hospital to protest the death of Pani.
