Reang refugees threaten to move Supreme Court
Agartala, Sep 19 (UNI) About 40,000 Reang refugees of Western Mizoram, sheltered in six camps in North Tripura, have threatened to move the Supreme Court to end the impasse over their repatriation.
Mizoram Displaced Bru Peoples' Forum (MDBPF) President Elvis Chorokhy here today said, ''We are planning to approach the apex Court to find an amicable solution to the problem, as the matter seemed to remain unresolved despite several rounds of discussions held at different levels for years.'' Reang tribes were forced to leave their homeland in September, 1997 due to ethnic conflict. They went on hunger strike last March demanding safe repatriation and education and health care facilities.
According to Mr Chorokhy, altogether 14 rounds of tripartite meetings had been held to solve the issue but failed to find a lasting solution to the vexed problem.
