HP to organise sports tournament for special children

Shimla, Sep 19 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said the state government would consider organising a special tournament for the special children in the state.

He was addressing the felicitation function organised by the Social Justice and Empowerment Department here last evening, to honour the special children selected to participate in the Special World Summer Games for the persons with disabilities to be held at Shanghai, China from October 2 to October 11, this year.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr Singh said that his government would organise special tournaments for the disabled children on the anology of the school tournaments with a view to make them feel the integral part of the society and provide them opportunity to exhibit their sports talents.

He said that the state government would provide adequate budgetary provisions for organising the special tournaments.

He said that Social Welfare Sector had been on the priority agenda of his government and record budgetary provisions had been made available to carry such activities at large scale to facilitate the deserving sections of the society.

In the function, Mr Singh presented a draft of Rs 25,000 each to Mr Vikram Chauhan, participating in volley ball, Mr Parnav Sharma, Badminton, Ms Bharti, Boxing and Mr Deepak Sharma, Cricket, all hailing from Himachal Pradesh.

He also congratulated the selected children for getting opportunity to participate in the international event for the special children and wished them best of luck in their performance, which he hoped would bring laurels to the state.
