High Court rejects bail plea of Tapasi Malik murder accused

Kolkata, Sep 19 (UNI) The Calcutta High Court today rejected bail to a CPI(M) leader in connection with the murder of a teenage girl, found inside a Tata Motors' small car project site in Singur.

Suhrid Dutta, a CPI(M) leader of Hooghly district, was charged with conspiring to rape and murder Tapasi Malik, the daughter of a farmer in Singur, whose land had been taken by the state government for the Tata Motors' project.

A bench, comprising Justices Amit Talukdar and Arun Bhattacharya rejected the bail plea as the investigating agency had opposed the move. The prosecution preferred to abstain from making submission on the case before the bench.

Dutta had been in judicial custody for 82 days and his earlier bail pleas before the lower court had also been rejected.

Tata Motors had planned to launch its Rs one lakh small car project from their factory in Singur next year.
