Mukesh Ambani's SEZs in Navi Mumbai approved

New Delhi, Sept 18 (UNI) All the three information technology (IT) special economic zones' proposals of the Mukesh Ambani-promoted Navi Mumbai SEZ were today formally approved by the Union government.

Prominent among the ten SEZs formally approved today by The Board of Approval (BoA) for SEZs also include an IT/ITeS each to be set up by Tata Consultancy Services and by Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation, both in Gujarat, the Union Commerce Ministry said this evening after a BoA meeting.

The board also granted in-principle approval to a textile SEZ to be established by Jindal Worldwide in Gujarat.

Of the total 19 applications taken up by the BoA, ten were granted formal approval and two in-principle approval.

Commerce Secretary G K Pillai, who is the board chairman, said BoA has so far given formal approvals for setting up 386 SEZs. Of these, 149 have been notified and Rs 47,732 crore invested in them, he said. These notified SEZs are providing direct employment to over 40,729 persons, he added.
