Ajrun Sengupta elected Chairman of Working Group on HRC

New Delhi, Sep 18 (UNI) Dr Arjun Sengupta, MP (Rajya Sabha), has been elected Chairman of the Inter-Governmental Working Group of the Human Rights Council on the Right to Development.

The Working Group on the Right to Development is one of the Inter-Governmental Working Groups on Human Rights and was established in 1998.

Dr Sengupta has been associated with the issues relating to Right to Development for a long time and has been serving as the Indian expert on Human Rights and Extreme Poverty.

The Working Group on the Right to Development holds particular importance to India as this is the only Inter-Governmental mechanism in the Human Rights machinery that focuses on the issue of Development.
