40 kg poppy straw seized, bhang destroyed in Kashmir

Srinagar , Sep 18 (UNI) In its continued special drive against illegal narco trade, Jammu and Kashmir police has seized 40 kg of poppy straw and destroyed 'bhang'(hemp) on 35 kanals of land in south Kashmir.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pulwama said specific information was received by police station Rajpora that some smugglers would smuggle out narcotic substances in a Tata sumo vehicle from Gulshanabad to Kasipora.

Similarly, a police party was immediately rushed to the area a the vehicle was intercepted at Kasipora.

However, the driver of the vehicle rushed his Sumo towards a Nallah and fled away, abandoning the vehicle, he added.

During the search of the vehicle, 40 kg poppy straw were recovered and the driver Mehraj Ahmad Bhat was also arrested after a long chase.

The SSP said during a special drive, police also destroyed bhang cultivation in the area of about 35 kanals in the remote area of village Meloora.
