12-yr-old girl crushed as truck overturns, mob blocks road
New Delhi, Sep 18 (UNI) Riotous scenes were witnessed in Seelampur area of East Delhi this morning after a 12-year-old girl was crushed to death when a mini truck overturned.
Shaheen, a class four student, was on her way to the madarsa where she used to study, along with her two sisters. She was crossing the road near Seelampur metro station when the accident took place.
Onlookers said the driver had managed to steer clear of the girls but one of the wheels of the mini-truck went into a pothole. In a bid to save them, the mini-truck overturned and subsequently fell on one of the girls.
According to sources, the irate crowd on the spot tried to burn the truck which claimed Shaheen's life. However, timely intervention by the police saved the situation from getting worse.
The mob also blocked traffic at the Seelampur T Point. They pelted stones at the passing vehicles, police said.
Meanwhile, the driver of the truck Anand Singh has been arrested.
