Woman dies, 25 injure in fireworks display

Chennai, Sep 17 (UNI) A woman died of burns and at least 25 others suffered burn injuries, during a fireworks display at a temple festival in suburban Ennore today.

Police said more than 3,000 people, gathered for the festival, vied with each other for bursting crackers, when the temple deity was brought in a procession.

The crackers fell on the crowd leading to the incident.

Fire and rescue services personnel from Ennore, Manali and Thiruvottiyur, who rushed to the spot, took the injured to the Government Kilpauk Hospital, where the woman succumbed.

State Fisheries Minister K P P Samy visited the hospital and consoled the victims.
