Vedant University project to trigger chaos: Lenka
Bhubaneswar, Sep 17 (UNI) AICC's OBC wing chairman K C Lenka today said the proposed Vedant University project on the Puri-Konark marine drive region would creat chaos in the state.
Criticising the Orissa government for providing 10,000 acres of land for the university, the former union minister said such an "imperialistic attitude" of land acquisition was against the very principle of social justice and equity and sought intervention of AICC President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for stopping the project. The project, conceived by the Vedant Industrial Group, was impractical, he added.
Mr Lenka said even a world class university need not require so much land and alleged the Vedant group had an hidden agenda to acquire such a vast land on the prime location.
He charged the state government with acquiring the land without taking the farmers and land owners into confidence and demanded the acquisition be examined by the Centre and the state government.
The Congress leader claimed that he visited the proposed site, met the villagers and came to know that there could be serious law and order problem if the project went ahead.
