Two pilgrims dead, four injured in truck-jeep collision

Jind, Sept 17 (UNI) Two pilgrims died and four were injured when their jeep was hit by a speeding truck coming from opposite side on Hisar-Chandigarh NH-71 near village Hatho in this district early this morning.

Of the injured, a woman, Uma Devi, was referred to PGI, Chandigarh, in a serious condition while the others were hospitalised in a local general hospital.

According to police, the pilgrims hailing from Ambala were on their way to the shrine of Goga Madi in Rajasthan, when their vehicle was hit by the truck.

On the hearing the sound of collision, local residents rushed to the spot and rescued the passengers trapped inside the jeep.

The police has impounded the vehicle abandoned by its driver and registered a case.

The deceased have been identified as Madan Lal and Bhagwan Dass of Ambala Cantt. Their bodies have been handed over to their families after postmortem, police said.
