Modi CM announces creation of new district

Surat, Sep 17 (UNI) With an eye on the forthcoming Gujarat assembly elections, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today announced that he will elevate Vyara taluka of Surat into a new district.

Mr Modi made the announcement at a public gathering after inaugurating a power station at Ukai here.

The Chief Minister said the proposed district will comprise the talukas of Vyara, Songadh, Uchchal, Nizar and Valod.

He said that as the elections are round the corner, it becomes necessary to seek permission of the Election Commission of India for the declaration.

If the Commission grants the permission, then the declaration will be made on October 2 and if not possible then, it will be declared on January 26, he added.
