Mechanised Boat owners urges CM to desilt sea mouth

Puducherry, Sep 17(UNI) The Mechanised Fishing Boat owners today called on Chief Minister N Rangasamy and submitted a memorandum seeking to desilt the sea mouth immediately to enable them to venture into the sea.

They said because of the accumulation of sand on the sea mouth, the mechanised boats could not be taken into the sea from the port, which affects the fishermen. They also demanded adequate financial support to them till the desilting work was taken up.

Mr Rangasamy assured the delegation that he would hold discussion with the officials and take a decision in this regard.

Earlier, tension prevailed when the fishermen group approached the main gate of the Legislative Assembly, as the marshals locked up the gate stating that they would not allow them.

Later, they allowed the leaders to get inside the assembly premises to meet the Chief Minister.
